Content Management for Everyone.
Websites are commonplace in 2008. As common as they are, many websites contain out-of-date information, inaccurate information, and result in lost opportunities. Organizations struggle with the need to keep information current, and often rely on a single webmaster, web designer, or volunteer to make these updates. What they really want is to allow each content owner to update their own web page content, calendar of events, and even mailing list. Going through one individual for these updates is simply unmanagable.
A Content Management System (CMS) is a software program that is designed to address this obvious problem. Using a CMS, a web designer would design the website's "look and feel", and place the images and HTML templates into the CMS and the customer would then take the reins and manage content editors, and each user would have specific privileges to add and edit web content. The trouble is, many CMS solutions are expensive, required too much knowledge for the average user to operate, and required software deployment and management on each desktop. Adoption is sluggish and the organizations find themselves back where they started - relying on a few individuals with the knowledge and tools to manage the website.
